The northernmost 11,000-foot summit in the Boulder Mountains, a steep, direct climb with sweeping views of the Boulder, Sawtooth, Smoky, and White Cloud ranges.
From Ketchum, drive 22.4 miles north on Highway 75 toward Stanley to Senate Creek Road (NF 182), just before Galena Lodge. Turn onto the dirt road (passable for passenger cars in good conditions, 4x4 preferred); at about 0.3 miles bear right in a large meadow onto road #409 and continue about 0.4 miles to camping spots near a trailhead close to the Miner's Yurt. The route begins on a snowshoe/ski trail near Galena Lodge before turning off to climb Galena's west ridge directly through wildflower-filled meadows, gaining roughly 1,400 feet per mile to a moderately narrow talus-and-rock-spire ridge near the top.
