Idaho's ninth-highest peak and the highest point in the Pioneer Mountains, popular for its relative ease among the state's "12ers" and its proximity to Sun Valley.
From Highway 75 out of Hailey, turn east onto the East Fork Wood River road, then follow North Fork Hyndman Creek Road to its end at the trailhead. The first two miles follow a flat old jeep trail (sometimes mountain-biked, with bikes stashed in the trees) into Hyndman Basin, bordered by Hyndman, Old Hyndman, and Cobb Peaks. Beyond the flat section, an unmaintained use trail climbs through meadows and unconsolidated rubble on the East Ridge to the Hyndman-Old Hyndman saddle and on to the summit -- about six miles and 5,000 feet of gain one-way in total.
