One of Idaho's nine 12,000-foot peaks, sitting squarely on the main Lost River Range crest and, unusually for the range, well hidden from any highway.
From US-93 about 8.4 miles north of Mackay, turn right and follow the road until it crosses a canal; watch for a road on the left that leads back toward Pete Creek Canyon. Avoid the drainage directly below neighboring Lost River Peak. The route up Pete Creek Canyon is mostly rock-hopping in the creek bed, hemmed in by cliffs on both sides, before opening into a scree field that is loose but stable higher up. The route reaches an 11,400-foot saddle, from which the summit ridge -- visible the rest of the way, with a couple of mildly exposed spots -- leads to the top.
