A talus and permanent-snowfield route up the east side of Mount Peal, reached via the Phantom Creek Trail from East Rosebud Lake.
From the Phantom Creek Trailhead near East Rosebud Lake, follow the Phantom Creek Trail up-valley past Phantom Lake toward Froze-to-Death Lake, staying on the north side of the creek where faint goat trails ease the travel. Near Froze-to-Death Lake, the route crosses Phantom Creek and climbs a moraine toward a lake at the base of the permanent snowfield (the "Peal Glacier") on the mountain's east side; rounding this lake involves some third-class boulder scrambling. Crampons are commonly used to climb the snowfield itself to the saddle between Mount Peal and neighboring Mount Pleasant, from which easy talus leads to Peal's summit.
