A commanding summit above Copper Basin with views across nearly the entire Pioneer crest, climbed from the popular Betty Lake/Goat Lake basin.
From Sun Valley, follow the Trail Creek Summit road, then turn south on the road signed for Copper Basin and Wildhorse Canyon; follow the Copper Basin Road about 13 miles into the basin and take the Copper Basin Loop Road past the cattle guard. A trail leads through large, car-sized boulders toward the saddle between Standhope and neighboring Altair Peak, continuing over the saddle into Surprise Valley. To reach Standhope from this trail, drop below rock structures on the Betty Lake side and traverse the ridge; past the rock structures, climb the south face, staying directly on the ridge crest (or contouring to the southwest ridge) to avoid exposed Class 4 terrain near the top.
