An easy day-hike summit at the mouth of the East Rosebud drainage, better known locally for the granite walls surrounding it than for its own modest hiking route.
From the East Rosebud Trailhead near Alpine, Montana, follow the East Rosebud/Senia Trail (an easy, Class 1 trail) toward the base of Sylvan Peak's north side. From there, the North Slopes route climbs Class 2 terrain to the summit. There are no good camping opportunities directly on the route, so this is normally done as a day hike from the trailhead (fee camping is available at the East Rosebud Campground nearby).
