The high point of the Froze-to-Death Plateau, commonly climbed as a non-technical add-on to a Granite Peak trip since the two peaks share the same approach.
Tempest Mountain is reached via the same Froze-to-Death Plateau approach used for Granite Peak's East Ridge route, whether starting from the West Rosebud (Mystic Lake) Trailhead or the East Rosebud/Phantom Creek Trailhead. Both approaches involve several miles of trail to treeline followed by a long, mostly off-trail crossing of the plateau. From a plateau camp, Tempest's summit is a straightforward walk up talus and tundra with no technical difficulty, and is frequently tagged either on the way to Granite Peak's saddle or as a consolation summit when weather or conditions rule out Granite itself.
