The second-highest point in Montana's own Pioneer Mountains, just seven feet lower than neighboring Tweedy Mountain and visible from Interstate 15.
From I-15, take the Apex exit (74), about 12 miles north of Dillon, and travel west on Birch Creek Road 12.2 miles to Dinner Station Campground (elevation 7,132 feet); a tenth of a mile farther is a large circular parking area marking the Deerhead Lake trailhead. The trail climbs the hillside above Birch Creek for 1.3 miles to a junction with an ATV trail signed for Deerhead Lake (7,582 feet), about another half mile. From the lake, an East Ridge ascent route continues to the summit.
