The highest point in Montana's own Pioneer Mountains (the East Pioneers, near Dillon) -- a separate range from Idaho's better-known Pioneer Mountains covered elsewhere in this project.
From I-15 several miles outside Butte, drive south 40 miles to exit 74 (or north from Dillon to the same exit), take Apex Road about 4 miles into the range, and turn right onto Willow Creek Road, which runs above Willow Creek for about 6 miles to the Gorge Lakes trailhead. The old trail is unmaintained and can be hard to follow in places, though the route to the base of the peak is fairly obvious. From North Gorge Lake, climb a scree slope to a couple of summit chutes; these chutes involve about 50 feet of difficult Class 3 scrambling before the top.
