West Goat Peak is the highest summit in the Anaconda Range (the Pintlers) and the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness of southwest Montana. The standard route follows Trail 129 to the Lost Lakes basin, then climbs the peak's southeast ridge to the saddle with neighboring East Goat Peak before finishing to the summit.
The trailhead is reached via Calvert Creek Road (which becomes Fishtrap and Mudd Creek roads) to Forest Service road #1279; the trailhead itself is unsigned, about four miles along FS-1279. Trail 129 is semi-maintained, crosses several streams, becomes boggy in places, and can be hard to follow, especially through the first several miles of forest before reaching the Lost Lakes basin.
Most parties reverse the ascent route via the Lost Lakes basin and Trail 129.
