Williams Peak's pyramid-like north face towers over the Sawtooth Valley; it is the sixth-highest peak in the Sawtooth Range and sits just south of Thompson Peak, the range's highpoint.
The peak is about 5.5 miles southwest of Stanley, Idaho, on the range's eastern side. A trail covers roughly 3.5 miles of the approximately 5-mile approach; the Southwest Couloir is readily accessible from the Thompson/Williams saddle, making it convenient to combine both peaks in one trip.
