The northern half of the Wonderland Trail crosses the Carbon Glacier — the lowest-elevation glacier in the contiguous US — and traverses the wild, remote north side of Rainier through Spray Park and Berkeley Park.

Route Description

From the Carbon River Rainforest entrance, the trail crosses the Carbon River suspension bridge and climbs steeply to Mowich Lake before traversing Spray Park — a vast alpine meadow with unobstructed views of Rainier's Willis Wall. The route continues through Berkeley Park to the White River Campground.

Approach

Carbon River entrance is on Carbon River Road west of Enumclaw. White River Campground is on the east side of the park. Permit required for all overnight camping — apply through the NPS lottery.
