One of the finest mountaineering objectives in the North Cascades, Mount Shuksan is a complex massif of glaciers, icefalls, and ridges immediately east of Mount Baker. Its Sulphide Glacier route is a classic moderate alpine climb; other routes offer more serious technical challenges.

History
First climbed in 1906 by Asahel Curtis and party. Shuksan is the only non-volcanic peak in the Pacific Northwest whose summit exceeds timberline by more than 3,000 feet. It is formed of Cretaceous metamorphic schist, making it geologically ancient compared to the young volcanic peaks nearby.
