The Wonderland Trail is a 93-mile loop circumnavigating Mount Rainier, crossing 18 mountain passes and traversing old-growth forest, subalpine meadows, glacial moraines, and dramatic river valleys. One of the most celebrated long-distance trails in the Pacific Northwest.
Northern Arc — Carbon River to White River

The northern half of the Wonderland Trail crosses the Carbon Glacier — the lowest-elevation glacier in the contiguous US — and traverses the wild, remote north side of Rainier through Spray Park and Berkeley Park.
Southern Arc — Paradise to Longmire

The southern section of the Wonderland passes through the park's most accessible terrain, connecting Paradise with Longmire through old-growth forest and subalpine meadows with dramatic views of the Tatoosh Range.

History
Established in the early 1900s by the National Park Service to provide access around the entire mountain, the Wonderland Trail has become one of the most iconic backpacking routes in North America. Permits are required and extremely competitive.
